Right. So this happened:

There are a million things I could write about this match — the bogus offside call that denied Clint Dempsey an early goal, Tim Howard’s Peyton Manning-esque outlet pass to the open man that started the break, the 90 minutes of incredible tension in the pub where I watched the game that ended in a joyous explosion, Ian Darke’s fantastic call of that game-winner, etc. — but really, I think this sums it up:

Everyone who saw this will remember where they were when it happened. Every American kid who saw this now wants to be Landon Donovan. This is how a fan base gets built. From here on out, everything changes. If you think this World Cup is fun, America, just wait until 2026.
