Lots of blogs are running World Cup prediction contests, but how many are letting you buy your own players and putting them up against theirs? And how many are giving you a prize you can hold over your head at future games?
Yes, it’s time for the Dave’s Football Blog World Cup Fantasy League, in which you, potential fantasy manager, will get $100M to spend on 15 players competing in the World Cup. Put together the most productive side, handle the transfer market well from round to round, and amass the most points, and you could win an honest-to-goodness soccer scarf from the nation or club (or blog) of your choice.*
Here’s all you need to do:
- Go to ESPN Soccernet’s World Fantasy competition page.
- Create your team.
- Under the My Leagues tab, look for the league called Dave”s Football Blog. You’ll have to scroll down a bit to see it, but it’s there. (And do try to ignore the apostrophe catastrophe there. I couldn’t help that.)
- Enter the password gousago and click join.
If you need a few tips on how to build your side, check out 101 Great Goals‘ Fantasy Football guides for the World Cup. They’ve already published guides for picking goalkeepers and defenders, and their guides to midfielders and forwards should be out prior to kickoff on Friday.
So come match wits against Off Constantly FC, and see if my dad was right when he said, “Son, you just can’t beat Off Constantly.”** Good luck!
* = A few rules: Prize scarf will not be custom-made for this competition. That means you can’t get a Brooklyn Asylum Football Club scarf — which I totally want, by the way — unless Brian Phillips decides to get them made. Furthermore, prize scarf must be purchasable and deliverable from an online store, and total value of scarf and delivery charges cannot exceed US$50. Winner of competition must supply valid shipping address, which will not be used for any other purpose but to deliver the prize. Finally, if Off Constantly FC wins, the scarf is mine and you can’t have it, so there!
** = That joke, like this photo, never gets old.
