My latest piece for EPL Talk takes a look at Roy Hodgson and his public announcement that Fulham’s remaining Premier League fixtures are now secondary to winning the Europa League. The powers that be in the Premier League tend to have a fit when managers throw out the reserves at the end of the season, because it somehow impacts the integrity of the league. Whatever. The season is 38 weeks long. Fulham has earned its league status for next season and can only get back to Europe next year by winning it this year. They might as focus on the prize they can win.
Lots of folks were upset last December when Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell decided to bench his starters midway through their Week 16 game against the the New York Jets — a game the Jets came back and won, which helped them get to the playoffs. Some say Caldwell’s decision cost the Pittsburgh Steelers a playoff spot. Bullshit. Losing to the Chiefs, the Raiders, and the freaking Browns cost the Steelers a playoff spot. If you don’t take care of your own business, don’t expect others to take care of it for you.
And yes, I’ll have plenty of things to say about the Steelers a bit later…
