"Because while we probably didn’t deserve a seed in 2006, Mexico sure as hell shouldn’t have gotten one over us."

True.

Dave: remember the old topic of soccer in the snow? Did you check out the Slovakia vs. Poland World Cup qualifier the other day in Poland in the snow on a snow covered pitch?

I won't post URL links since the blog anti-spam bot doesn't like that, but you can just Google Slovakia Poland World Cup and search for images if you didn't see it.

I agree we don't deserve a seed, but not everything FIFA does makes sense. The Dutch are probably one of the top teams in the world right now, but missing out on the 2002 World Cup could cost them a seed. Likewise, France may well be seeded if they stumble in through a playoff. No system's perfect, but I'd like to see each team's performance in qualification play a part in their ranking for seeding. Because while we probably didn't deserve a seed in 2006, Mexico sure as hell shouldn't have gotten one over us.

"Thought was NFL blog"

Futbol Football Soccer. Learn it, live it, love it.

Not that the other football codes don't have their charm, too. We're all one big happy family here at Dave's Football Blog. All codes, like all nations, welcome (but Carrie).

Anyway, no way in heck that the USMNT gets a seed. Not unless FIFA radically changes their formula for seeding. We need to get out of our group for a least two World Cups in a row, for starters. Haven't done that yet.

Until we can consistently get out of our group without being seeded, and can consistently stay in the top 10-15 of FIFA rankings, we really don't deserve a seed.

A great end to a game we should have handily won, but still enough to top the table. Not that I'm expecting a seed in the World Cup - FIFA seems to go out of their way to make sure we don't get one. There is some sort of schadenfreude in being able to crush an entire country and make another one rejoice, all with a nod of the head by Bornstein. Good stuff.

Did the large photo of multiple footballs displayed prominently at the top of the site not give you a hint?
