The Infamous Fair Catch Free Kick

Published by Dave at 4:45 pm under American Football

Here’s the video of Neil Rackers’ fair catch free kick last Sunday. You can tell by the look on the face of Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt that he’s a little too self-satisfied with being a rulebook anorak.

I tell you what, though. I’d love to see Rhys Lloyd try this once…

I prefer the Australian version of the fair catch.

This is just another excuse to make the long-and-drawn-out gridiron code even longer and more drawn out.

Just kick the damned ball already.

Geez … and I thought Matthew Lloyd and Brendan Fevola took their time …

Perhaps there is a need for “Shot Clock” it is the NFL.

The AFL tried to introduce a 30 second shot on goal limit to Aussie Rules from basketball a couple of years back to prevent this sort of rubbish slowing up the game. They called it the “Lloyd Rule” after the Essendon star who took half an hour to pull up his socks, rub his dacks and throw tufts of grass into the air before taking his shot at goal.

But at least when Lloyd eventually kicked it, it actually usually sailed through for a goal !

I wonder how it would work in American Football, I presume that it would just be play on like in Aussie Rules.

But if ever there was a need for such a rule, it is for Neil Rackers !
