Looks like our boy Benny has decided that he’s accomplished all he needs to accomplish in the AFL and he should take up a new career as a junkie instead.
The West Coast Eagles star — former star? — was arrested by police in Northbridge, which may or may not be the Perth equivalent of the PJ’s, and charged with multiple drug offenses. That picture of Cousins from Sky News Australia shows him in the back of a police car, where he may be so loopy that he thinks those Posh-sized sunglasses will actually conceal his identity. Or make him a superhero.
This comes just two weeks after the death of former Eagles star Chris Mainwaring, who was 41. Cousins was reportedly one of the last people to see Mainwaring alive, and now his arrest is only going to fan the flames of the rumor that Cousins is the AFL equivalent of Cathy Smith.
Enough is enough, Eagles. I know Cousins’ hamstring is the only thing that might have kept you from advancing further in the Finals Series, but really, this guy must be dropped now. Seriously, Chris Judd wanted out, and parents are terrified that their kids will be drafted by West Coast. If that’s not a sign that it’s time for a reboot, I don’t know what is.
UPDATE (10/17): Reports are coming out of Perth that Ben Cousins has been dropped from the club. Someone needs to get Cousins and Quincy Carter in the same room and have John Lucas straighten them out.

I think he’s headed back in your direction Dave. Malibu, to hang out with all those loser Hollywood types.
Let’s hope this is the last we hear of him, (and Daniel Chick for that matter) so West Coast can get on with season ’08.

I just hope your Cathy Smith comparison does not rear its ugly head here. I think I would leave Perth for good. You would never hear the end of it.
There’s a national election on right now, and this story runs in the first 5 minutes of even the national news bulletins out of Sydney!
