Now we move from fantasy soccer to nightmare soccer…
Our Carolina Railhawks have turned to crap as of late, having lost five matches in a row — four USL matches and a friendly against Cruz Azul — after knocking the Chicago Fire out of the U.S. Open Cup. They’ve been outscored 14-4 in their last five league matches
(I attended the 4-1 loss to Miami F.C. I haven’t seen backline play that shocking since Rio Ferdinand kicked that own goal in Portsmouth a few months ago. You could have kicked gigantic crab soccer balls through the holes in that defense. Horrible.)
Nevertheless, the struggling expansion club is doing everything it can to keep the fans. If the Railhawks lose or draw against the California Victory (and their horrid, horrid fight song) on Friday night, fans can redeem ticket stubs for free admission into Tuesday’s U.S. Open Cup match against the Richmond Kickers. Gauntlet thrown, boys. If you don’t pick it up, those checks might seem a little lighter than usual.
The Carolina-California match will air live on Fox Soccer Channel tomorrow. I will not be in attendance for this one, as I’ve got a cadre from Greenville coming to my house this weekend, but I’ll be out on Tuesday. Come on, you ‘Hawks! We’ve got smoke bombs to inhale!
(Thanks, Jarrett.)
