Y’know, for a sports week that’s supposed to be deader than Bill Maas’ broadcast career, there’s a lot to talk about out there. Here are a few things you might want to read as you wait for ESPN to shower you with David Beckham hype…
- Did the L.A. Galaxy throw a game for Becks? (FanHouse)
- The Sydney Swans wish Brendan Fevola was their headache. (Das FanHaus)
- Chelsea’s Didier Drogba ended a civil war in his native Ivory Coast. Good on ya, Drogs. (Vanity Fair)
- Uruguayan footballers are really sore losers. (FanHouse)
- Gee, that Rugby World Cup is awfully distracting. (New Zealand Herald)
- Your definitive David Beckham write-up. (That’s On Point)
- How they write about football in Mexico. (USA Soccer Spot)
- There are no tickets left for Dublin v. Laois at Croke Park. (RTE)
- Didn’t I tell you it would be USA v. Japan? (FanHouse)
- Carlito wants revenge in the Copa America final. (Sporting Life)
- And Carlito’s agent might get the last laugh. (Ireland On-Line)
Oh, and for those of you in the Raleigh-Durham area, there are two Carolina Railhawks games this weekend — Friday night against Montreal, and Sunday night against the Chicago Fire. Both games are scheduled to start at 7:30. We may no longer have a shot at bringing Beckham to North Carolina for the U.S. Open Cup, but knocking off an MLS club — not to mention the defending champs — would be reward enough for an expansion team.

Aw, you’ll mention Dublin V Laois being sold out, but not Sligo’s historic Connacht title, I see the Dublin meeja bias is spreading
