Looking for video clips of the American Football World Cup? Yeah, so am I.
Several searches on YouTube have turned up nothing so far, and while I can find plenty of articles on Google News and a few sports blogs writing about this, I can’t seem to find the first second of video footage.
Sure, most of the highlight reels so far will look one-sided, what with Japan beating France 48-0 and the USA defeating South Korea 77-0. Still, it might be fun to watch the USA team highlights. As head coach John Mackovic informs us, this includes:
Returning the opening kickoff
Returning a punt
Blocking a punt
Returning an interception
Returning a fumble
It might also be fun to see Korea keep asking for more abuse late in the 4th quarter…
Korea is young to this type of competition and played as hard as they could until the end. Even as we were taking a knee for the last couple of plays, they were exhorting our team to continue with the game. They have real pride in their team.
Either that, or they just wanted to be treated like Japanese TV contestants.
The point here, though, is that we really want to see this competition. It’s been a long summer for gridiron fans in America, and we’re starved for anything that looks like the game we’ve been missing. The resources are there, and other forms of football are using those resources fairly effectively to increase their exposure. Why aren’t IFAF and USA Football doing the same? Video tools are getting cheaper every day, and YouTube traffic doesn’t appear to be shrinking any time soon.
And if there video clips out there that I can’t see… well, that’s not so effective, either, but point me to them, because I’m sure I’m not the only blogger who would like to put those clips on my site.
