Doom Awaits The Tennessee Titans

Published by Dave at 11:26 am under American Football, General Football Talk

Why is it always the player on the cover of Madden that always gets hurt? Were Ronaldinho and Wayne Rooney doomed when they graced the cover of FIFA 07? Were any of the rugby stars on the cover of EA Sports’ Rugby 06 game destined to suffer massive injuries? Why is it always the NFL stars that suffer this fate?

Alas, the world will never know. All we really know is that 2007 is going to be a sucky year for fans of Vince Young and the Tennessee Titans. That team’s offseason has been bad enough as it is, what with Pacman Jones being given a year-long timeout and all of Young’s offensive weapons leaving through free agency and not getting replaced by equal talent. Young on the Madden 08 cover is just the olive in a big suck martini.

It might have been a sucky year for the San Diego Chargers, but LaDainian Tomlinson turned EA down. LT said they weren’t paying him enough. If you believe that, I’ve got an NFL team in Los Angeles I’d like to sell you.

I’d ask why no Australian Football stars have ever suffered this fate, but the only AFL for which EA Sports publishes a game is the Arena Football League. That’s a damn shame, too, because if anyone could truly bring Aussie Rules (or Gaelic football) to an international audience, it’s Electronic Arts. Is there even an AFL game coming out for Australian consoles this year? I haven’t heard about one…
