I would be remiss to let another day pass without mentioning BallHype, a new social networking site that does for sports what Digg does for general news and tech geekery. I still like Digg, but you can tell that they’re not big sports fans, and their sports section reflects that. The guys at BallHype have built a site that’s better for sports. Topics are cleanly divided among both sports and cities, and you can submit sports links, hype other links, and follow news items for specific teams and cities. Even Michael Arrington at TechCrunch gave BallHype a thumbs up, saying it wins on categorization alone.
I thought about building a social network site, but I suck at writing code. The fact that I can put a WordPress site together is more a testament to WordPress’ clean programming than my 733tn355. Hell, I had to have someone tell me how to watch an x264 file on my PC…
Anyway, go check out BallHype. And feel free to submit links to this blog, too. While we’re at it, we should bug them to create an Aussie Rules section. There’s a lot more to football than soccer and gridiron.

Thanks, Dave!
Aussie Rules is on the roadmap … if we get a few more requests, we’ll work it in this month.

I found this thread through a search engine, so I am a little late to the party in terms of posting a comment. You don’t have to be good at coding to build a social networking or digg-like site these days Dave, there are a number of prepackaged options out there you could deploy. The trick would be getting enough traffic to get enough posts to make the site worth visiting. Having a site that already has traffic, like yours, would be a good thing to have as a foundation.
