AAAAAH! There’s a strange oblong ball bouncing in front of me! I must grab it and kick it between those tall sticks! There’s a trophy to be won!
Carlton Blues 100, Kangaroos 85
Brendan Fevola would like you to know just how much ass he kicks. Last year’s leading AFL goal scorer racked up 7 goals, 2 behinds and one nine-pointer, giving him 53 of the Blues’ 100 points. I don’t care what football code you play. That was pretty awesome. Shannon Grant had four goals for the Kangaroos, who can now look forward to a regular season full of pain.
Brisbane Lions 88, Geelong Cats 73
Chris Johnson, who is perhaps most infamous for attempting to behead an Irishman with his bare hands in 2005, scored two goals, while Justin Sherman blasted three, and his young teammates racked up three supergoals in knocking off Geelong. Neither of these teams made the AFL playoffs last season, and much the same seems to be expected of them this season.
So Carlton will host Brisbane for the NAB Cup title game next weekend. Everyone else is looking forward to the AFL regular season Round 1 match between the Sydney Swans and the West Coast Eagles, who have met in the AFL Grand Final twice in the last two years. That game goes off on March 31. Anyone out there know how a blogger living in North Carolina could watch that one?
