He Made the Freaking Playoffs, People
Yes, the New York Giants went 8-8, the locker room bitching was at an all-time high, Eli Manning regressed, and Bob Whitfield proved to be a dumbass, but let’s be real here. Tom Coughlin took the Giants to the playoffs with Michael Strahan, Amani Toomer and Luke Petitgout out for most of the season. That’s why he’s coming back for one more year.
If Strahan, Toomer and Petitgout were in the lineup the whole time, we wouldn’t be talking about this. The Giants probably would have won at least two of the games they lost and finished 10-6, which might have been enough to win the NFC East. All this team really needs is to get healthy, find a new running back, replace Whitfield, get a good QB coach for Eli, and get everyone to shut the hell up for five seconds, and they’ll be contenders again.
If nothing else, this will quiet those bogus rumors about John Fox returning to New York — though Carolina might send DeShaun Foster up there for a first-day draft pick. Carolina has salary cap issues…
