B.C. Lions 25, Montreal Alouettes 14

The British Columbia Lions are your 2006 Grey Cup Champions, and… Look! Mounties! They’re so Canadian!

B.C. quarterback Dave Dickenson was named the MVP of the game. He completed 18 of 29 for 184 yards and ran 6 times for 65 yards and a whole lot of first downs.

Meanwhile, B.C. kicker Paul McCallum, who was 11 for 11 in playoff field goals this year, was named (I kid you not) the Most Valuable Canadian of the game. You would never see any player in the Super Bowl be named the Most Valuable American. Canada is just that awesome.

Canadian trophies, however, are not so awesome. At some point during the Lions’ celebration, the Grey Cup itself actually broke off its base, and different groups of players celebrated separately with the Cup and the base. The amount of liquor that will be drunk from that cup tonight may be pretty massive. And most of it will be Canadian. That’s just how the Grey Cup champs roll.
