Broncos 31, Steelers 20

Y’know, I was already convinced that the Steelers were done after they lost in Oakland. They really didn’t need to confirm it today.

Where do you start with this one? How about Santonio Holmes? After a Denver touchdown, Holmes fumbled away the ball inside Denver’s red zone. Pittsburgh was already down 7-0, and that fumble helped turn it into 14-0. Holmes then fumbled the next kick return he touched, and Bill Cowher finally yanked him in favor of Cedrick Wilson. Holmes now has five fumbles on the year. If he were feeding his baby, he would probably fumble the bottle. Maybe that’s why he got in that fight with his baby’s mama…

Of course, Holmes wasn’t the only one who couldn’t hold the football. Wilson made a big 4th-down catch in the first half, then proceeded to lose the ball in a fight for extra yardage. It might as well have been a pooch punt. Even Hines Ward, trying to make a play late in the game, dove high for the end zone bounced the ball off a Bronco helmet, all but sealing Pittsburgh’s fate.

Oh, and Ben Roethlisberger threw three interceptions, though one of those picks was late in the game after it was all but decided. All told, Pittsburgh turned the ball over 6 times, and Roethlisberger attempted 54 passes. Not exactly Steeler football, is it?

Then there’s Javon Walker, who turned Ike Taylor into his personal treadmill and ran all over him. Of course, Walker was on my opponent’s fantasy team this week. He scored 38 points — 206 total yards and 3 TDs. That didn’t make me very happy, either.

So the Steelers now have the same record (2-6) as Miami, Cleveland, Houston, Tennessee, Detroit and Tampa Bay. Only Arizona, now 1-7 has a worse record. That’s right in the thick of the Brady Quinn sweepstakes. If this team somehow manages to finish at .500 or higher, it will be an epic miracle. Wake me when this nightmare is over…

The Hines Ward play where he somersaults into the end-zone, loses the football before crossing the plane of the goal line, and hands it to a Denver player pretty much summed up our season in one play - the Steelers turning what should be sure wins/plays/whatever into something really bad.

    Amazing.
