Now that he’s won his Super Bowl, Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher remains coy about his future, telling that great Steel City stalwart Stan Savran that he’s “not going to look too far down the road.”
That’s because the road doesn’t end in Pittsburgh, and he doesn’t want to tell that to the yinzers who love him — not until they’re ready to accept the phrase, “Steelers head coach Ken Whisenhunt,” anyway. The likely endgame for Cowher in Pittsburgh is for him to retire from the NFL, return to Raleigh, and (probably) become the Athletic Director at NC State, his alma mater. The Wolfpack boosters hate current A.D. Lee Fowler almost as much as they hate Duke, especially after that disaster with John Calipari. The only reason Fowler is still there? Cowher is still honoring his contract in Pittsburgh. Cowher would probably be in Raleigh right now if he didn’t love the Rooneys so much. He’s going to help the team now by helping Whisenhunt make the transition to head coach. Why else would Whisenhunt stick around Pittsburgh after so many head coaching jobs opened up during the offseason?
I don’t need to remind anyone that Cowher bought a $2.5 million home in Raleigh. How many people not named Mark Cuban spend that much on a house and don’t live in it?
Look, we all know this is coming. It’s just going to take a year or two before we get there. For now, these are still Bill Cowher’s Pittsburgh Steelers, so let’s all just enjoy the ride while we still got the van, ‘kay?

forget ad, bill cowher is coming to north carolina state to become the head coach. As a student at NC State, nothing would make this school more happy. Feeling like a red headed stepchild with coach k and roy williams 20 minutes down the road, bill cowher will bring the best football program in north carolina to state. his presence will put bobby bowden into retirment and make frank beamer wish he was still in the Big East. Now I know what everyone is thinking, what is going to happen to chuck. This is were it gets better, chuck amato will become the ad of NCSU. look how much money he raised for carter finley stadium. I firmly believe that he would make a great athletic director.
P.S. on a personal note, all students (including myself) feel and hope that bill cowher will come to state. Hell, I will wash his car, mow his grass, walk his dog and clean his pool for free.

brantley’s not very smart, is he? as a recent ncsu grad, i can almost guarantee you that cowher will not become our coach. it angers me that this is even being brought up, seeing as how the same thing just happened with our basketball team. we’re going to be soo good this year with rick barnes as our head coach, assisted by john calipari, right? now, while i am happy with sendek being gone, chuck’s job shouldn’t be in question. granted rivers gave us more than we could ever ask to have repeated, but we’re still on the upswing as compared to 7 or 8 years ago. and we are flat-out not going to get cowher. we’re not going to get anyone better than chuck, either. so, if we follow our basketball team’s example, find a talented ex-player who never graduated, and hire him, i’ll really be looking forward to head coach koren robinson. or hey, we could always go back to mike o’cain, i’ll bet we might be able to get him back
that being said, i would love to have him as AD, but i think that’s equally unlikely

Bill Cowher has said in the past many times that part of his plan in life was to return to NCSU and be the coach. It is just a matter of time.

Forget Cowher – how’s that whole “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” investigation coming, Dave? Dig up anything yet?

No telling if Cowher comes, but we don’t hate Duke… really don’t care about the relocated Yankee population that invades that campus for 4 years and then leaves. We HATE UNC. I wouldn’t piss on Roy Williams if he was on fire.
